Malossi and the heavy rock bonfire tales of "Drømmer På Boks"

"Ei låt med underliggende temaer om utenforskap"

Being linguistically challenged and listening to "Drømmer På Boks" by Norwegian heavy alternative rock grungy band Malossi and you get the feeling that the world created in this song is not for the frail. That you better know how to split wood with a well honed axe and start a fire without matches. The song from the beginning feels more than a heavy ass rock diatribe but a story told maybe even over that fire started with those split logs. Press notes share:

[- A tune with underlying themes of ostracism, shame and indifference, wrapped in heavy riffs and strong melodic lines.

Drømmer På Boks (eng.: Canned Dreams) portrays the village's tired and well-known original who lives his life day by day in the outskirts of the community, finding his comfort at the end of the bottle. Often observed meandering along the road with blurry eyes and a dewy mustache, in search of the day's refills. He was regularly talked about but rarely talked to. Pushed to an existence on the outside, with his life slowly running out seeking short-term “Drømmer På Boks”.

A crystal clear and prophetic vocal in the intersection between acoustic bluesy campfire atmosphere and hard hitting riffs honing from Clutch and Fu Manchu’s neighborhood. Egil Stemkens from multi Norwegian Grammy-winning band Hellbillies contributes on double bass, together with harmonica virtuoso Richard Gjems.]

I like the dynamics throughout, the filmic sense, the heaviness that blends with rural culture at a time when popular culture in general might have the desire to be on the outskirts.

"Drømmer På Boks" is the first single from the album "Blanke Barter" which will be released in late summer.

In English:

Well-grounded in the timeless foundation of drums, bass, and guitar, lifted up by small melodious tales in their rugged native dialect from Solør, the listener is transported to distinctive places with recognisable characters and destinies. Mopeds held together by duct tape. Teenagers listening to Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Clutch mixtapes in their Walkmans™, raging down the dirt road to the corner of the gas station, where they share a flask and tall tales. Accordion music and old Swedish songs about suicide and long-haul trucking can be heard from the gas station radio. Along the path into the forest an old man staggers with a bag from the local liquor store.

This is neither odd nor crooked, vain or trendy. This is heavy Rock in Norwegian, with a small slice of American desert and a big chunk of Norwegian rural culture. Malossi is looking forward to sharing their stories with the people out there.
