yawny yelly glowy floaty are a divergent sonic art collective of two based out of Alice, Texas and the textured, eerie beauty of "Alone" seeped under my skin easily. From the onset, the strumming acoustic guitar and ambient tones feel darkly intriguing like they are emanating from scratchy 16mm found film footage. When the track expands with booming bass, a trip hop flavored beat it and Stephanie's vocal aesthetic that rides a tightrope between broken and comely you get pulled in further. She asks questions that will particularly speak to those of us who delve into the horror side of things, more to the deep esoteric H.P. Lovecraft-esque kind of macabre than the Rob Zombie grand guignol blood letting. When she asks "are your night terrors coming true?" I literally winced as I know someone who suffers from them. Thankfully I have not known anyone who has descended into madness.
Amid the bits of lo-fi and killer production there are classical tones, bits of dark baroque pop and other sonic embellishments that show a keen sense of drama and darkness. It is cinematic and I just could see "Alone" as a soundscape in the next Netflix or Hulu episodic binger.
