The Absurd and the alt rock emotional punkery of "Postmates Me a Gun" (So I Can Die) - radio edit

"how you gonna hear me when you get so loud?"

"Postmates Me a Gun" (So I Can Die) by Detroit bred / Los Angeles based The Absurd is, without a doubt, the a crowd pleaser during the band's live sets, it is bad ass and is feels drawn from the bottom up with a cool heaviness. In the late 70's when indie rock, new wave, punk was coalescing into something new it would of been called power pop, in the 90's maybe post grunge indie, in the 2000's it would've been called garage rock and the truth is it is all those things and more. The opening heavy prog is so exquisitely killer and made me think of the 80 /90 alt rock / power pop outfit Dramarama who also hit Los Angeles but were originally from elsewhere (New Jersey). I especially love the fact that the alt rock / garage rock guitars and drums are interwoven with vocal melodies that feel alt rock (yes) but also shift into sort of romantic lounge punk melodies too.

I listen to a lot of music, one could argue way too much music so it is nice when a song / band lands on my electronic desk that seems so real. I know that is an odd thing to say but unfortunately a lot of music seems less so these days.

Los Angeles based desert grunge power trio. Equal parts Garage, Psychedelic, Alternative, and Stoner Rock. Psychedelically influenced, spiritually motivated, philosophically driven.

Founded in Detroit, The Absurd made a name for themselves in Los Angeles and throughout the west coast thanks to their chaotic, unhinged concerts and penchant for punk rock controversy. The Absurd's second album, "The Sun Still Rises", was released on November 3rd, 2020. Their first two albums have both received a warm reception from the heavy music underground, culminating in multiple Best of the Year list mentions. In one review from Classic Rock Magazine, the band was compared to a combination of "Nirvana jamming with the Stooges", while other outlets have noted influences as diverse as Radiohead, Jack White, QOTSA, & BRMC.

In 2021 the band looks to have multiple releases, the first of which, "The Absurd Goes to the Beach EP", is slated to drop late spring/early summer.
