Violet Basso and the avant pop noir dreams of "Escape" (Official Video)

"see you down the road maybe / when you've had the chance to learn / how to be good to your baby / and to yourself in turn..."

While I am buried in songs that often times are of the indie rock, psych rock, post punk, punk variety, then hearing something like "Escape" by San Francisco based artist, singer-songwriter Violet Basso is a straight head turner, eyebrow raiser (actually just my left eyebrow like Dr. Spock). The lovely sort of chill, deep vibe pop sound with artfully dramatic musical melodies and Basso's dreamy, yet almost eerie aloof vocal aesthetic that suggests a hypnotic quality had me, almost instantly, thinking of 60's French Bossa Nova pop like Isabelle De Funès' "Jusqu'à la tombée du jour" and the unmistakable Nico with the Velvet Underground or even better, an amalgam of both of those artists.

The trippy song (to me) gives you a sense that there is a mysterious back story to be discovered. The filmic sort of avant noir Official Video is just as divergent, dreamy and beautiful. "Escape" is the first single off of Violet Basso's upcoming full length album, "Enūmaeliš".

Dive in, the water's fine.
