"And I lie awake at night, then I wake up and waste my time / Can't quite ignore, no, no, voices that I hear through the door..."
From the very onset, "Just Fine'" by Vancouver based Slightest Clue has heavy, chunky, captivating sonics. The amazing rock flirtation of the opening guitar sound, the bottom heavy feverish drumming, the bass that pummels but slips into dancing moves drew me in in a big way. As bassist Hannah Kruse's evocative vocals pour in I am utterly blown away from the overall intensity. As I enjoyed the jamminess, the dense musicality and power I thought of a lot of music cues. We all have them when we hear new music, sensory buttons based on past memories and artists that have inspired us in the past. The thoughts that came to mind have a wide cross generational blend. I thought of Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Yuck, Gang of Four, Speedy Ortiz and (for whatever reason??) 2010 in Los Angeles.
"Just Fine" is, in fact, the first Slightest Clue song that features Hannah on lead vox. I love, appreciate bands that do not have one lead singer and that is what you have here. Slightest Clue is Malcolm McLaren, Hannah Kruse, Sean Ries, and Nick Sciarretta. The power, the textured sounds, the absolutely symbiotic nature of the sound, Hannah's interesting curious lyrics and more have me stoked and discovering more of these guy's music. A self release EP is in the works.

Slightest Clue is a Vancouver-based four-piece that probably shouldn’t work. Each member brings distinct influences and experiences: a stage actor whose playlists go from Talking Heads to Bill Withers to Björk, a hook-obsessed recovering choir girl, an electrical engineer whose personal idol is John Bonham, and a guitarist who played for (and left) ten other bands before deciding this was the one for him. It’s like the secret after-school project of four kids who would have passed each other without a glance in the hallway at school - but once they’re plugged in and ready to play, all bets are off. It wasn’t supposed to work, but it does, and they don’t have the slightest clue how or why.
** At this particular time we find ourselves in a financial pinch due to many factors. We want to keep AP going. It has been a passion project for over 13 years. PLEASE consider donating, we could really use the support. Thanks so much
