"you're the only thing on my mind..."
At first listen the 80's post punk bathed 'dancing on my way to bed' by the enigmatic no kids pets ok felt (to me) like something between an actual lost underground dark UK goth pop track from a cassette and a lampooning of such on SNL. That period of the late 70's to maybe mid 90's mostly euro post punk / new wave / goth pop tones has been back in a big way under the indie rock umbrella since around 2010 or maybe it never left. Because the specific styles, the kind of 80's aloof English new wave drawl, the drum tones or machine tones, the predilections to favor the sounds of artists like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Bauhaus, Joy Division maybe too too much in a spot on way that being inspired by that period could be perilous.
The more I listened to 'dancing on my way to bed', though, the more I liked it, the more it feels original in it's wonky earnestness, it's acerbic view. Intrigued.
