Miss Torsion and the provocative proto-punkian Gothic electronica of "Lost"

"I feel you staring at me, the abyss opens up / a hissing touches my ears your cold breath draws me in / No safety anywhere the ground sways and falls / in the far distance existence disappears..."

I don't know what it is but when dark electronic music stirs in my brain especially when the vocal auteur has a deeply eerie, maybe sideways aesthetic, my brain goes south to the angular sides of horror or sci-fi. Maybe it is because I used to be (what seems like eons ago) into the body horror of David Cronenberg and deeply existential horror of H. P. Lovecraft. Now I am more disturbed by authors of a different kind of horror, mouthpieces like Jordan Peterson and Tucker Carlson, but I digress.

When I steeped myself in the circular synth walls of "Lost" by the intriguing Swiss singer-songwriter, avant artist Miss Torsion I felt pulled back to those old haunts. In fact, I did an exercise or test of sorts. There is a movie trailer out for another Cronenberg's psychological horror flick. So do this, find, then play the trailer for Brandon Cronenberg's "Infinity Pools" on You Tube but mute the sound and instead play Miss Torsion's "Lost". See what you think, what you feel. I think it works beautifully.

The liner notes for "Lost" on Bandcamp state:

In this song Miss Torsion describes a feeling, or rather a place where not even the people closest to you can reach you. It's a hypnotic electro/goth song made for the dance floor, that makes you shake all the frustration and sadness out of your bones.

So, from what I can gather, this dark sounding song is, well, a happy one. An escapist dream where you are free from anyone and everyone but the flip side, what I am feeling from the song, is the fear when you feel out of place, like at a new job where you are thrown into the fray and flailing, or the adolescent fear of being inexperienced with someone who is more worldly. Those moments when you die inside.

Whatever the case is, whatever the descriptor is on "Lost", it is artfully sideways and takes you mind to adventurous places.

I am Miss Torsion and I enjoy expressing myself through music, images and videos. It's a solo project and I do everything independently, which gives me the greatest possible freedom to let off steam artistically.

I was the guitarist of the band Cell Division from 1994-2014. A dark rock band that had some little successes. We were allowed to support the Finnish goth rockers HIM and perform at the Leipzig Wave Gothic Treffen. In 2014 the band changed its name to "Andy Hates Us" and finally split up in 2016.

In 2017, the group "Lowest Fi" was founded in which I sing and play guitar. Since 2020, I've also been working on my solo project Miss Torsion. Everything is music and I consider myself lucky to be able to express myself through it.
