Creamer and the angelic art rock stairway of "House Of Dreams"

"in the name of peace and beauty I commission you to dream, with attention and invention write yourself out of this scene..."

Open the door to Creamer's "House Of Dreams" and be prepared to be wowed and transported. Now this house, no matter what your affiliation, might just be church, a rock & roll church but a church just the same. Philip Creamer possesses a killer voice and a grand theatricality that would just feel fine in front of two dozen singers in shiny robes and in "House Of Dreams" he does inject passionate soulful tones that feel gospel-esque. He also drenches a fair amount of 60's psychedelia and 70's broad pop but there are many things going on here, blues, art rock and maybe a twist of glam too.

Creamer's big voice has been compared to Freddie Mercury, Jeff Buckley, to Rufus Wainwright and Matt Bellamy and rightly so. While diverting through the many red velvet curtains of "House of Dreams", I admit I did think of Rufus Wainwright and tangentially maybe an amalgam of Elton John / Queen but I also thought of 70's progressive art rockers Be-Bop Deluxe. There is a style shift at 2 minutes 7 seconds in that is so fucking rad and beautiful, that feels not only like 70's art rock but something with flamboyant tentacles that reach into space rock cut with glam / glitter pop.

Creamer here, at least to me, is reaching into places that a lot of artists don't go anymore. Rock as an escapist stairway to heaven. Sometimes in this fucked up world going to grand ethereal places give you perspective after all, an artistic two way mirror to poise ourselves against those things that are most important to us.

Creamer is the collected musings of songwriter Philip Creamer. Power rock, classic pop, and pop ballads suggest an obsessive love of sixties and seventies pop and rock.

"House of Dreams" - Creamer continues exploring the late-era Beatles tradition of the rock mantra with the orchestral art-rock anthem “House of Dreams.” Strings harken Moody Blues, while the heroic vocalist channels cinematic feelings of “Healing” era Todd Rundgren for an immersive listening experience.

"10 Years" - Paired down to finger style hummingbird with multi-instrumental producer Jon Estes lending a McCartneyism on bass, Creamer leans comfortably into folky Prine-esque poetic simplicity with a wave of Beach Boys harmonies crashing each refrain. Dreamy bridge modulations help land a mix of on-the-nose-love-song & existential beach pop.
