Will Sprott and the love and timelessness of "Strange Lines" (Official Video)

"Getting into trouble / Like I always do / Leaving a pile of rubble / Trying to tell the truth..."

A homage / tribute to a fallen friend, bathed in a sort of collision of surf punk and bohemian folk, "Strange Lines" by San Jose, California bred Will Sprott is a song that feels chill, loving and timeless. Sprott who also plays keyboards and sings with Shannon & the Clams (and Shana Cleveland) has a wonderful vocal countenance here and it cuts through the lo-fi rock sound in an amazing way, floating through and right into your head and heart.

I thought of The Velvet Underground (circa 1969) while absorbing the grace and lovely melodies of "Strange Lines". I thought of some other Brit pop outfits too but Lou Reed glowed like an ember. Maybe because there is a pure sort of busker sound here, or maybe because the tightly wound bass and acoustic rhythms sounds so old school folk.

Dig this.

From will Sprott:

"Strange Lines" is a song I wrote about my friend Andrew Pejack who is no longer on the planet earth. It's about connecting with people you love outside of space & time.

Getting into trouble /
Like I always do /
Leaving a pile of rubble /
Trying to tell the truth /
Calling on the strange lines /
With a voice that spoke /
Setting up the punchlines /
To the eternal jokes /
Outside of space  /
Outside of time too /
I'm there with you /
I'm there with you
