"dont wanna / but i gotta say goodbye and go / grew up but we forgot to grow / that sparkle / it goes away and then you know / excuses start to weigh more than gold..."
"Bloom", the very first track off of ill peach's debut album "THIS IS NOT AN EXIT" dropping November 3rd via Hardly Art / Sub Pop records, is a great sounding track (besides being a magnetic song). From the sinewy textured bass lines, the kinetic trip hop-ian drum beats, stacked nuanced layers of sound (some quite alien in scope) and singer / songwriter Jessica Corazza's dreamy melancholic vocal countenance there is something to revel in at every turn. Kudos to ill peach's other half, producer Patrick Morrissey for lending such an adept hand at mining such artistically rich musical beds. ill peach here keep those beds neat with such intriguing spatial qualities and sonic dynamism. Everything feels in it's right place, the upfront and farther back sounds and tailored noise are set in their respective relationship to each other in ways that push the emotional connections. You can also hear and feel in your bones the space between the sounds, levels of distinctions.
This level of detail extend to the poetry Jessica bring into the track:
suddenly the days feel so alone / like i left part of me at home / i go out / can’t focus open every door / see your face on everyone
never meant to let it break / i still hope we’ll make it through / counting days til i see you / inch by inch / our love will bloom /
Of the song ill peach share:
[BLOOM might be our only love song. A bittersweet one. It’s about testing the boundaries of a long-distance relationship. How can you love and be with someone if you can’t see them? In the flux of everything that happened these past few years, we saw friends and longtime relationships break up like a ripple effect. But also surprisingly, the ones that had it the hardest around us found love in the ashes, a beginning to an ending. Love can and will navigate anything if you believe it. So Bloom is our anthem to fighting for love]
Dig this song, everything about it. It belongs in my head and in other types of media like the next Hulu binger. Oh, and love the Official Video too.
