Sven Fredrik and the dark artful descent of "Döden Från Gårdarike"

There is something artfully caustic about "Döden Från Gårdarike" from primarily drummer / percussionist Swedish Sven Fredrik's newly released second album 'Through The Rosen Bridge'. The blend, exploration between drums and electronica feels particularly dark, a pervasive spiral into something opaque, cajoled possibly by a disembodied female voice, a provocateur narrator. At least that is what I am feeling even before that voice says "abandon all hope" (holy shit). I can't escape the feeling of a sonic horror even though there is beauty to behold and the thought that if "Döden Från Gårdarike" was a movie (instead of a song) that it would be directed by a Panos Cosmatos or a Brandon Cronenberg.

From Liner notes about the album 'Through The Rosen Bridge' (bracketed):

[As the album title hints, a creative guiding star has been Eistein's theory of 'The Rosen Bridge' where movement in time and space can be possible. As if a parallel world can co-exist, much like Sven Fredriks own musical duality. Musically, the album moves between kraut and sampling-based electronica that is both timeless and forward-looking. On the album, we hear guest musicians such as Memoria (Tess de la Cour), Catterfly, Joakim Forsgren & Backa Carin Ivarsdotter.]

Enjoy "Döden Från Gårdarike" at your leisure but best not listen late at night, even if it is with a glass of warm milk.

Percussionist Sven Fredrik made his solo debut in October 2021 with imaginative instrumental music in the borderland between electronica and psychavant garde. With drums as the main instrument, inspiration is taken from the local stage's flourishing electronic sphere, nature and space. Sound worlds are painted with large brushes and small details. Sven Fredrik has since the turn of the millennium been active in the Indie rock context and has toured extensively in both Europe and North America. The self-titled debut album was released digitally and on cassette through Lamour Records. At the Local Heroes awards in March 2022, Sven Fredrik received an award in the category "Solo of the year" with the motivation: "One of this year's more unique listening experiences from Gästrikland"
