The Leatherbound Books and the subversive smile of "WHSMF"

"we're having so much fun / blocking out the sun / only a few more years / can I delay your fears / I'll try and pull some strings / and call some favors in..."

The unbridled crooked smile of "WHSMF", by Burlington, Vermont based thresome The Leatherbound Books, with the crunchy guitars, warbling feed back, crystalline synths, cool bass driven tom tom beats and a vocal aesthetic that feels like a forever teen feels at once like unfettered youth but also has it's subversive dark side.

"we're having so much fun / bathed in the blood of the young / it's just the time of out lives / we know you're on our side /  I'll try and pull some strings / and call some favors in..."

Absolutely like the collision of dark and light and those teenage sounding vox that recall those times when life itself seemed scary, yes, but kind of unlimited too, when you were not yet worrying about paying that mortgage, something that most kids today will likely never ever attain, at least California kids. There are other challenges that I didn't have to deal with like the ultra huge disparity of wealth in this country and how we are being played by Governmental and Corporate agendas milking and mining us dry.

WHSMF- is about (from liner notes):

[Loosely from the perspective of oligarchs and social media tycoons, generally about entropy and privacy and being scum.]

There are lyrics about our phones being always with us and watching us. About the fakery on social media, the click and swipe addiction and more. All this in the same package with the underground catchiness of artists like Melkbelly, The Breeders and Scrawl.
