Daggy Man and the alt folk rock abstract magic of "The Hammock"

 

"now I'm half past / now a quarter to / now I'm right on the minute and missing you..."

Listening to the obtuse artistry of "The Hammock" by Daggy Man, the solo moniker of Australian singer-songwriter Thomas Calder, steeped in all sorts of gothic bohemian folk alt rock atmospheres and my imagination moves toward pushing and pulling tensions. The textured plucked acoustic guitar distortions, depths of hell bass lines, others drones of sounds and especially Calder's vibrantly manic vocals casts the feeling of some sort of swamp blues colliding with busker punk, filtered through a sense of mythologies, of shadow figures dancing on walls. 

Sonically I feel an amalgam of artists like Ugly Casanova, Wolf Parade, Mimicking Birds and you may or may not think of other artists. I suggest these bands not a sounding like Daggy Man or vice versa but maybe in some way having similar artistic temperaments, beauty, darkness and subversion wrapped up in one. 

"The Hammock," is a glimpse into Daggy Man's upcoming album, "Make Weep" out NOVEMBER 17th, [promising a wholly unique musical experience that resonates deeply with listeners.]

[The moniker of “Daggy Man” has its origins in Calder’s fascination with pretending to be different characters throughout his childhood. One such character “Daggy Man” meant adopting New clothing and mannerisms to try and inhabit what it felt like to be someone else or another version of himself. This fascination with trying to understand and portray different perspectives would prove to be one of the core themes across Thomas’s creative career.]

Daggy man Is the solo moniker of Singer/Songwriter Thomas Calder.

Thomas started his musical career at age 21, self-recording debut album “Bleeders” and releasing it in Nov 2012 to rave reviews & national radio play.

From these humble beginnings, his music career has grown from strength to strength. Producing five studio albums in six years, receiving esteemed awards such as the Grant McLennan fellowship and APRA PDA award, and travelled the world, touring both nationally and internationally with respected acts such as Big Thief, Sparkadia, Julia Stone, Matt Corby,

Father John Misty, & Of Monsters & Men and played acclaimed festivals such as SXSW twice, Filter’s Culture Collide festival in LA, CMJ NY, The Great Escape, Harvest and Falls Festivals.

As well as a thriving music career Thomas is also a prolific film-maker and photographer. He & #39's produced several short films as well as all of the film-clips released to accompany his music and creates all of the design and photography around his current project Daggy Man entirely himself.
