"woke up from a dream again / and you were gone..."
The thick, sinewy synth walls of "Something Good" by Los Angeles based Child Seat feels Depeche Mode-ian lush but more massive and more punk leaning. The overall sound is so rich and masterfully produced that other 80's artists kicked at the synapses in my brain like Berlin, like Blondie, like Siouxsie and the Banshees. Iconic synth artists like Thomas Dolby and Gary Numan rattled inside my head too.
Yes, boys and girls, a lot of new music is seeded by 80's color palettes (and hex codes), that is for sure but few artists are able to stamp their own imprint on these atmospheres. Child Seat, the ultra talented powerhouse duo of Madeleine Mathews (MAWD) and Josiah Mazzaschi (Light FM, Bizou), are able to create new iterations of sounds, of songs sounding utterly unique. One thing that sets them apart Child Seat apart is Madeleine's potent vocal pipes, I appreciate all kinds of singers but it is clear that her instrument has the breathe and scope of hushed intimacies and big wailing declarations and everything in between. An amazing voice and coupled with Josiah's 20+ years of success recording and producing artists like The Jesus and the Mary Chain, Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins, Deap Vally, Built to Spill, Rilo Kiley and more, he not only knows how to universe build but how to not do too much or too little. Josiah makes beautiful frameworks for Madeleine's powerful storytelling.
"Something Good" is first single off of our 2nd full length album."

Child Seat, the powerhouse duo formed in 2021 by Madeleine Mathews (MAWD) and Josiah Mazzaschi (Light FM, Bizou), turns pandemic setbacks into indie rock gold. With the entirety of their debut album written remotely during the pandemic, Mathews’ powerful rock vocals, reminiscent of artists like Brittany Howard/Karen O., creates a unique juxtaposition over Mazzaschi's 80's synth-heavy instrumentals and blended with MGMT/Beach House/Arctic Monkeys vibes.
