RPKprincess and the artful melancholia and resolve of "chemical"

 

"find the only way to stay alive / detonate the sun / every time I get high / lazy in the arms of an angel / what a way to go..."

The high definition porcelain high of "chemical" by New York singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, DIY producer RPKprincess gleefully flies on a self-reflecting playground swing, maybe in slow motion against a comfortable cadence. What feels like machine beats feel appropriately somber cool but, in truth, the sprite indie rock guitar strums lead the way as ethereal droning synths create multi-color sonic aurora borealis type shapes. All this sideways beauty is magnetic but the 'pure' magnetism is RPKprincess's vocal countenance that feels like crushed bits of melancholia filtered with resolve, all the while feeling a bit aloof like her mind is elsewhere maybe chewing on memories. 

The lyrics, especially the chorus saturated in a hallucinogenic haze or maybe a dream about a hallucinogenic haze spins like a prism of ID or thoughtful lyrics honed, engraved in stone.    

"MDMA /  my veins burst wide open / Too late to be saved / it's only chemical..." 

AND:

"find the only way to say / goodbye / diamonds in my eyes / my mind is fried / crazy and strange / pink lemonade / my love / could never relate..."   

I really like the song from a sonics standpoint, the compelling voice and lyrics and the feeling I get from it all within my scattered interpretations as I try to read between the lines.

[My name is Bella. This is my e-girl alter ego. I produce everything and play all instruments myself. Guitar is my favorite. My two-year sobriety inspires my work. This song mirrors the false euphoria of drugs, using delay to create an atmosphere of artificial bliss. I write each part with effects already added so my ideas and lyrics become enmeshed with the sound.]

I appreciate art made out of emotional residue splattered against parchment paper, an emotional Rorschach test for us to decipher.
