Kielzog and the progressive synthwave / post rock nightmare fuel of "Anthropocene"

"Sonically, the sky is the limit and "Anthropocene" is the daydream or nightmare fuel"

The palpable tensions, emotional distortions and lifting fogs of "Anthropocene" by Amsterdam based "neoprogwavegaze formation" Kielzog will undoubtedly impact each listener who hears it in a distinct different way but I can't imagine that no one will step away without dark anxieties rattling over their skin or conflicted feelings of dread (and resolve) in the same cold breath. It is that kind of song, whether it feels like a battle ensuing or personal demons in your head having a knife fight or maybe a time in the past or one yet to be when the battles might have more to do with cyber attacks of some sort.

I am struck by the percolations of high registered drums like bongos, the sense of bohemian folk flirtations of a kind of 60's Middle Eastern retroism blending with what feels like vintage science fiction tones, sonic tentacles. The blend of organic, of guitars framing a cross generational as dirty synths rise up like those machines in War of The Worlds. Sonically, the sky is the limit and "Anthropocene" is the daydream or nightmare fuel.

LINER NOTES:

"In the age we live in, the virus never left; it keeps changing us just as we keep changing it. The opening song revisits the meaning of the pandemic and things it has led to, both known and yet to be discovered: a hidden aggression soon to be spilt onto the streets, an ageing dictator planning the next conquest in the bunker, or a new ecological cataclysm killing millions? This instrumental track builds up from a welcoming mellow yet dynamic intro to the full prog-symphony with the almost choral sound, through a middle piece which makes one think of an odd brew of Tool and Oceansize."

The Amsterdam based neoprogwavegaze formation Kielzog (meaning ‘wake’ in Dutch) has sailed off on a quest for serenity and silence in the eye of the storm. Ever since the before-times, Kielzog has been forging an atypical, hard-to-place sound, which steers course amid the receding waves of grunge, progrock, stoner, and electronica, arriving everywhere and nowhere in particular and giving place to something else. Kielzog amplifies echoes of the impending climate doom and genocidal colonial violence merged with demands for freedom and justice for all, not for some. As long as the noise continues, resistance won’t die out. Travel with us in our Kielzog.
