"You see me walking real slow (oh yeah) / Well I ain't going to a disco (oh yeah) / I'm burning down the pavement (oh yeah)..."
About a nano-second into "Some Days" by Philly-based Vixen77 via the Official Video as directed by Skylar Watkins and I am hooked in. With a band that hits so many cross generational mind boggling cues steeped in the social dioramas held up by the historical underpinnings of feminism and women's empowerment throughout my lifetime and the attack on those same such movements by current right wing politicians, Vixen77 feels gleeful and sad at the same time. It is like how fucking have we come and how in danger are women's and LGBTQ rights when womens' reproductive rights are being taken away one brick at a time.

You know that feeling? The feeling you get when you're on the interstate at 4 a.m. No one around. Pedal to the metal. that moment you cross the 100mph line. That. Fucking. Feeling.
That's what rock 'n' roll is about. That feeling. That's what the ladies at Vixen77 have harnessed. A bona fide punch in the face. Major influences such as The Stooges, The Runaways, and Johnny Thunders are channeled to create fast-paced, no fucks given sound that will put you on your ass.
Philadelphia punk rock 'n' roll comin' for your soul.
Vixen77 is the brainchild of guitarist, Caitlin, who dreamt of playing in an all-lady rock band since high school. She had been playing the Philly punk scene for a few years when she decided to put her dream in motion. In late 2018, Vixen77 was formed, a five-piece all-women band. The name Vixen77 is a reference to woman energy and the musical influence of late-seventies punk.
Word spread quickly of their catchy songs and intense live shows. People packed clubs and house basements to rock out and sweat along with Vixen77. In a few short months, they were opening for Cherie Currie of The Runaways and Brie Darling of Fanny. An EP found its way around town with the band eventually getting airplay on Philly stations WXPN and WMMR. In March of 2019, they were WMMR's artist of the month.
Also in March of 2019, Vixen77 began pre-production and tracking of their full-length debut album with Pete Donnelly of The Figgs producing. Then, the pandemic arrived. The world shut down. Vixen77's plans were put on hold along with the entire music industry.
Vixen77 emerged from the pandemic with a couple of lineup changes, a bunch of new songs, and more focus and energy than ever. Original members Caitlin, bassist Jaz, and guitarist Liz enlisted the services of Sarah Novack on drums and Samantha Joan on vocals.
Liz found her way to Philly via her hometown of Orlando and has a history of playing and singing in punk bands such as Odd Movers and Capital K. Jaz came into the Vixen77 family through the punk and skateboarding legend Chuck Treece of McRad fame. He saw the Vixen77 Instagram post seeking a bassist and sent it Jaz's way. The band found drummer Sarah Novack, who has been making drumming videos since she was thirteen and has over a million YouTube views, through an online musician site. Samantha Joan, who had always dreamed of fronting an all-girl band, found her way to the Vixen77 family through a mutual friend. She was an immediate fit combining an aggressive vocal style with a bundle of confidence and charisma.
The band, once again, went into the studio with Pete Donnelly producing. They recorded their upcoming album, Easy Access, over the course of three grueling days at Retro City studios (Mannequin Pussy, Mitski, Lizzo, The Menzingers). Seventy-two hours later, they had twelve bangers ready to release into the world.
Vixen77 returned to the stage in January of 2022. They've been playing to packed rooms around the Philly area as headliners since they've reemerged from the Pandemic—recently opening for the legendary Wayne Kramer on his current MC5 tour to rave reviews. The live show is more raucous and sweaty than ever. It's a non-stop ball of energy as rock 'n' roll should be.
Their demos found their way into the hands of Megaforce Records owner, Missi Callazzo, who offered to distribute the album through Megaforce's distribution arm under the Sony/Orchard umbrella, MRI Entertainment. MRI is responsible for distributing respected acts such as The Black Crowes, Anthrax, Meat Puppets, They Might Be Giants, and Mike Doughty as well as new acts such as Fantastic Negrito, Dirty Honey and Plush.
The album is set for an October release. The first single, Your Love is going to make its way into the world in June of 2022. The band has some video plans, a short documentary about their 72 hours in the studio is in the works, as is an east coast tour this fall.
Rock 'n' Roll should be loud, aggressive, fun, and rebellious. That's exactly what Vixen77 looks to bring to the world. Buckle up.
