"I could never be so lucky / as to be a machine / and never get to thinking / what it's all gotta mean / just to be so lucky / just to be so..."
The twangy surf vibes of "Luckier Still" by Los Angeles born & raised singer-songwriter Gregory Ackerman is perfect in the way that it softens the hard edges of your life, at least for 3 minutes and 15 seconds. It sounds beyond soothing, it feels nostalgic, the bottom and mids coming off the acoustic guitar stretches out like a beach blanket, the bass rolls perfectly in the pocket, the shuffling drums and I have seriously never heard a tambourine sound so exquisitely lush. It provide a perfect longboard ride for Ackerman's earnest, chill, maybe slightly stoned vocal countenance that hits like that "will happily drive you to the airport" best friend to a sultry lover and everything in between. The lead swanky cool lead guitar embellishments kill, the touches of percussion slaps, and the lyrical sense that cigarette smokers don't need to be shamed to death cuts a nostalgic rug.
The longer I sway in this wonderful hammock I wonder if the song wanders into dark waters befitting of Quentin Tarantino's typewriter but no matter, I am dragging on this and flying high.

The track swims in Ackerman's recently released new EP "Brand New Life" via Polymoon Music. As LINER NOTES reveal:
[Ackerman feels this upcoming EP represents a renewal in self-expression, tending more towards the light and positive. After getting through the darkness that fueled his self-released 2021 album Still Waiting Still, Ackerman looks towards a brighter future.]
[Produced by Ryan Pollie in Los Angeles California. Mixed by Pierre de Reeder (of Rilo Kiley), mastered by Mark Chalecki (Mavis Staples).]
