"hey man / what's in the tea? / did you put something special for me?"
The sinking underwater feeling of "Ricky" by Screen Room, the project / band name of the songwriting / musician brothers Cameron Gabriel Vitale and Spencer Robert Vitale, is lo-fi darkly dreamy and if you squint your eyes while you listen beautiful too. The bending guitars between George Harrison and Gabby Pahinui, the lovely guitar rhythms, the doo wop dancing bass and sleepy drum beat all works in unison creating a hallucinogenic vibe like when you were 12 and came back from the dentist high. The dreamy youthful vocals are eerily endearing like a Twin Peaks episode. There is also something mischievous going on here at least that is what I am feeling like when I was a wee little kid and peered through my mom's bedroom door and saw a glimpse of Hitchcock's Psycho even though I was forbidden to see scary movies at that tender age.
In any even, I am digging "Ricky" and don't even feel compelled to learn about the song's back story. Somethings exist better when they are vague mysteries.
