"In a car in a jar / In the ground safe and sound / I will find you / I will find you..."
The angular, guttural, punk framed portraitures of "I WILL FIND YOU" by Toronto - Canada's post punk outfit The Squeegees is gleefully infectious like a dazzling smile... like mononucleosis. And why not, there is a lot to love, a lot to want to get close to right up front while leaning on the stage at a perfectly cramped venue. I absolutely love the pounding bass lines that vacillates between low to mid, the guitar lined rhythms, the punchy pocket Lovering-esque drum beat, the cherished snarling vocals and the kind of underwater falling bridge that may or may not be a direct homage to the lobster à la rock.
For me, I do feel a sort crushing amalgam of early Pixies / Talking Heads / Modest Mouse which is fucking awesome.
LINER NOTES:
Quote about this track:
[When I listen to "I WILL FIND YOU," it feels like a villain from an '80s slasher movie is hunting me down for four minutes. I hope you feel the same way. Weirdly, it started as a goofy folk track with a punchline, nowhere near the "horror" vibes it has now. When I played it with a band, it slowly morphed into the sinister post-punk freakout you hear today.]
