AP Track Reviews
Trevor Misplay is a singer songwriter based out of NYC and as Cartography has released the beautiful and inspired Sir Francis Drake. An impressive debut written, performed, recorded and produced all by himself and born out of where the forest meets the sea as he took a job on Cape Cod in Massachusetts one summer, spending his days off in a makeshift Studio he brought from his base in the NYC. On the track, Misplay feeds in ambient sounds of nature and a whimsical vocal melody that flows effortlessly around a prominent bass line, bright acoustic strums, organic sounding percussion and sounds that could best be described as orchestral alt folk (minus the orchestra itself).
This song began as something I hummed to keep myself company while on a solo road trip in Northern California last year. Its sounds are inspired by the beautiful and sometimes frightening experiences I had hiking and camping at the feet of the redwoods.
The title is in reference to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard that stretches from the Bay Area to the cliffs of Point Reyes National Seashore on the Pacific.
