"everything you see is just a mirror"
Betty & The Kid hail from Ladysmith, British Columbia and the title track from their EP "Queen Of The Beltane" is a spirited, sultry, life affirming, cross pollinating trip fusing a sort of Appalachian roots music with hip hop with porch blues with Gospel / spiritual, late 70's garden rock and a lot of double entendres. Whatever it is, there is a lot of hippie and psychedelia sprinkled on the crooning and cooing going on. It is inviting and sexy in that "it's springtime, let's f*ck" sort of way but also all cosmically embracing in that Burning Man kind of way. If I have offended anyone by a misappropriation of historical or cultural context I do not mean to. The press notes do explain that Beltane is a Gaelic festival that includes juicy reverence of the plant spirits and with Betty & The Kid there is a lot of suckling honey, booby traps and misbehaving going on.
