"leap of faith would be an understatement"
On the track Garden from Bristol (UK) based psychedelic outfit Garden Party and from the 2020 EP, "Slightlydelic" you step into a dreamscape of sounds, a driven beat, floating bass lines, layers of ascending synths, fluid electric guitar lines that bend and create almost intergalactic melodies as Jono Price talks a great deal about a love interest, about hidden circumstances and maybe lost opportunities, about ships passing in the night. It feels sort of stream of consciousness and it is captivating and then something surprising happens. Garden erupts into Price singing as the song becomes more standard but truly beautiful riding on dominant bass and more dancing guitar melodies. I love how the track sucks you into it's trance like universe with the spoken word and then becomes something else. It is a lovely, cinematic work really, for me it has a sense of romance, of something with a back story that you want to know more about even if it is never revealed. Garden Party is the musical project of Price, as singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He offers the following about this song and it's inspirations:
"A soft, introspective and emotional spoken word piece with a grandioso chorus at the end to finish the project off. Drawing inspiration for its lyrics from many different points in the last few years of my experience, it creates a bit of a tapestry of stories rather than an individual tale. Having come after songs on the EP that were much jumpier, songs that had more funky bass lines and much more sunsoaked, this track is the final turn in the EP that takes it to a much softer place.
The tracks were all recorded at home, by myself, mastered and EQ'd by myself trying to navigate this industry I've stepped into. My next project working in a similar vein to this song has currently drawn attention from some respectable UK producers (through connections from my music school) and so am hoping to live up to them.
This song draws inspiration from Velvet Underground's The Gift due to its spoken word element over a whirling and hypnotic element of the background music. The chorus draws from everything from the growlers to Paolo nutini in its crooning and wishing elements."
Jono Price as Garden Party is currently working on his next project "babyteeth".
