There is something about the track Young Gun from the Swiss trio Kush K and from their 2020 album "Lotophagi" that feels like an avant garde midnight movie, maybe German and maybe stoic and odd but really beautiful, in black and white until at one moment the film bursts into technicolor. The moment that happens in the song would be at 3 minutes and 38 seconds when the song lulls and begins the coy fade out that somehow feels like a kind of emotional ascension. The song (in total) is a study in emotional nuance and that is what ultimately gives it the emotional and musical gravitas. The singing that starts from the very beginning, the sort of droning horn sounds, the trotting bass and drums and the dominant bounce of the lyrical melody. But what might hold the biggest embrace is those goddamn beautiful vocals telling a bittersweet story.
