"if I could soak up all the black"
Cat Clyde based out of Stratford, Ontario Canada is an artist on the edge. That is to say she isn't really folk, isn't really indie pop, isn't really indie rock, isn't really porch blues... yet is on the edge of all of them, all at once. In that way she is kind of genre agnostic but however you want to describe her, she is uniquely herself. I have not listened to all the music this woman has crafted but what I have heard pulls me easily into her fray, a place that exists in the parts of life where art exists in some way as a shield from that life. There is something within her vocal aesthetic and physical persona that feels tender and vulnerable while at the same time signalling that she doesn't give a fuck either and I like that.
Listen to her stripped down acoustic version of All The Black as well as the Official Video for the "more" studio version and you will see what I mean.
