"how much heat do you generate?"
Winter is a jagged post punk siren of a song by German based post punk Carpet Waves. Contained in the gritty vocal wail is the story of inner strength and metaphorical lines tied to climate change. From the onset, the punchy, stabbing guitar notes create a head bobbing groove with proto punkish vibes, a reggae-esque dance while the bass bobs and weaves around it all. Love the drum work here that ties so exquisitely, so frenetically to that bass while guitar layers go wild. A stunning jammer of a track.

The five new songs on Carpet Waves' EP “Darkness and Bright Thoughts” were created between boozy nights, broken heads and melancholy moments. The ideas developed in crashing jam sessions, were packed in crisp indie compositions and merged with elements from alternative, post-punk and shoegaze to form the Carpet Waves sound that fans already know from the energetic live shows.
In the past few years, the sound of the four lads from Düsseldorf, Wuppertal and Cologne has continuously developed due to influences from the local scene. In 2018 the EP "1165 / Particles" was released as a completely filmed live session. With her, Benny, Kai, Javi and Tim were able to take the ambience of the big stages for the first time: Their performance at the Open Source Festival and the Düsseldorf University Festival as well as a live session with the renowned Cardinal Sessions distinguished the summer. The following year the band was able to attract further attention with the release of their danceable single "Dust" - followed by the victory of the Düsseldorf artist festival including professional band coaching and a show in the Netherlands at the Dvers Showcase Festival. The moments and nights captured by photographer Timo Vogt over the past 12 months accompany the entire process of creating the EP and the energy of the four friends.
Even if all live ambitions had to give way for 2020, the band proudly presents their new EP. Five tracks, which were recorded on their own and mixed by Martin Lucas (Secret Vaccine, Beluga) and mastered by Björn Schlüter (Storia Mastering), present Carpet Waves in a very raw, direct sound guise. The atmospheric, dark and versatile rock music addresses current topics and great emotions and then cries out to be sung at small festivals and make the crowd sweat.
