"don't you know if I don't know by now"
The ever so lucid track Origami Heart by three piece dreamers Dawn Chorus is so lushly pop forward. I am feeling the evocative vocal melodies that ride 70's art rock dream / pop theatrical tones bringing to mind the Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra, Eric Carmen (The Raspberries) and even Harry Nilsson.
This is not to suggest that anything feels copycat-esque, far from it but William Fait, Christian Sudweeks and Christopher Weed who formed DC in 2018 after each leaving other long standing bands found common ground in tapping into beautiful pop that they wanted to hear but weren't out in the musical landscape of today.
DC says that Origami Heart is:
"a song about vices. It's influenced by various decades of This psychedelic music and two nights we spent in Las Vegas."
I can imagine seeing the Vegas zombies cast in a million light rays from the million sparkling lights would inform their sound. Origami Heart sounds sad but also deeply romantic. The nuanced production and bendy lead lines that brought to mind both George Harrison (how could it not) and Roy Wood (ELO) push nostalgic 70's art rock that might be called baroque pop a few years later. Loving the sound here. Loving it a lot.
