The trippy "Frog" by L.A. based rock collective Westerner is incredibly atmospheric from the first expressive sound. Oddly shaped thick staccato rhythms with eerie tones that might make your skin crawl just a bit, the thickly textured ramping up strings, feeling sort of like creaking doors, creates tension as Cooper Bombadil's vocal aesthetic is wide eyed, investigating a dark gothic place and not knowing what lies around the corner.
Pretty soon the percussion, that alluring yet edgy rhythm, and beautiful yet spooky harmonies will either raise your blood pressure or have you pulling the closed ear headphones off your head. Either way, it is incredibly captivating stuff and then when the electric jag happens with proggy affections that feels like something between Faith No More and System of A Down pushed through gothic folk / garden rock filters happens you will smile gleefully and then push replay.
Westerner is driven by lead vocalist Cooper Bombadil and would be incomplete without Mike Gattshall (drums), Brandon Valerino (bass & vocals) and Javier Olmedo (guitar). They are "an encapsulating cocktail of psychedelic rock, disco, and trip hop. Drawing influence from Pink Floyd, Massive Attack and late-90s electronica".

Hugely Influenced by Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, Massive Attack, Radiohead, White Denim, Westerner is an electronic, psychedelic rock band from LA. They're a ballsy, cocktail mix of psychedelic rock, disco, and trip hop.
Most recently, Westerner was featured in Voyage LA Magazine as well as earning a spot in Music Connection’s Top 100 unsigned acts for the third year in a row. They recorded an unreleased EP with Oingo Boingo’s former bassist John Avila, which was submitted for placement though Big Noise Records.
Westerner was the house band for the California On Location Awards 2018 at the Beverly Hilton, and has performed numerous shows around LA including Good Times at Davey Wayne's, The Bootleg Theater, Whisky a Go-Go, The Viper Room, and Sayer's Club to name a few. Westerner’s single “Soft Playground” was also recently featured in a Calvin Rucker clothing ad.
In 2020, Westerner will be releasing a new single on the 1st of every month to their followers across all social media platforms. Most of the singles will be original, but there may be a surprise revitalized cover or two! Also this year, Westerner will be releasing a video to go along with the single being released on the 15th of that month. That’s a lot of content coming for 2020! These releases will coincide with the several shows per month Westerner plays in and around the city of Los Angeles.
