Harpoons' funky art punk deconstruction "Eyes in the Maze" from their debut album

Harpoons’ “Eyes in the Maze” gives you the funky art rock your soul needs without having to involve David Byrne, (he needs some rest). The instrumentation effortlessly tightropes on the solid bass throughout, as the track progresses into other pleasantly noisy realms. It has a sort of Liquid Liquid rhythm to it with striking noisy punk elements. This East Coast trio released their aptly named first album “Pangs of Conscience” a month ago, having recorded it throughout the pandemic. This experience has been a new change for all of us. But I’ve been listening to new music from all over the world, playing some myself, seeing my friends create art, masks, PPE and helping their communities, and it’s clear that creative expression is the light at the end of this tunnel. This song is one of those which surprised me, a keen expression of Harpoons’ artistic passion. Listen to “Eyes in the Maze” and the rest of their new album to partake in this renaissance of creativity we’ve got going on.

Formed in 2011, art-rock trio Harpoons, have developed a distinct unsettling sound by pulling influences from post-punk, shoegaze, and ambient. With band members residing in NYC, Boston, and Vermont, their first album Pangs of Conscience was recorded both in-person and remotely, as they navigated the unique challenge of making an album during a pandemic. A follow-up album is expected next year.
