"I wonder what became of you"
"Hot Air" by Oddnesse, the dream pop project of songwriter / producer Rebeca Arango feels a bit like a multi-colored psychedelic runaway train. Arango's bedroom pop vocal aesthetic keeps this grounded but the big production flourishes, her overall production is slick and shiny. This gloss and sheen makes it feel like a theme song for one of those Netflix original series that are about odd people relating to a terrible event. You know, one of those shows. The tight production and urgent cadence does feel a bit safe in the end, I might like a bit more feral feel in the psyche rock / pop I engage in but Oddnesse has created a captivating ride here and the perplexing lyrics paint crazy pictures in my brain. Weird trippy ride indeed. One that portends more interesting dreamy affairs.
