L.A. solo indie artist Ciggy Webbs just released his latest EP "Criminal" containing a variety of sounds and though they might be hybrid blended versions of indie rock, punk, darkwave and alternative rock filtered through varying degrees of electronica, shoegaze and goth pop all of it has hard and broken edges. It is those hard edges which imbues the work with weight, with drama. The last track, "Vampire Money" might feel the most dreamy even though upon closer inspection the narrative feels sadly dark. The layered ambience, the indie pop affections and mid-80's romance wave vox pull you through the self deprecating muck set against a new wave tinged midnight moon.
