"my busy hands won't relax and this was a long time coming..."
"Deliberate Design" by Tofu Boy is beautiful in the way that a meaningful piece of art, a book, a movie or play is beautiful even though, like life, it is full of hard choices, sadness (even extremely so), redemption, or survival of love against formidable odds. The acoustic guitar framework, the cadence on the strings and from the evocative vocal aesthetic is full of hesitancy and urgency. The orchestration whether analog or electronic is a total surprise as is the sparse piano and other sounds. They are elegant, easy on the heart and sublime.
I don't know much about the person behind the silly, funny, curious name Tofu Boy but that's not important to me, but this song is.
Tofu Boy shares:
"Deliberate design is about living a life you can be proud of regardless of what other people tell you to do.
I wrote it after I moved from the UK to the USA, and recorded it using a 3/4 size Yamaha acoustic guitar from my mother-in-law's college days in the 70s."
