"Till there’s no more ground that I can stand on / No more dusk no dawn beyond..."
Often times folk music, maybe more than other genres, at it's core, deals with the nature of things. The essence of a relationship (broken or thriving), the intrinsic relationship of nature itself on our biology or mental state, our psyche, or the nature of those macro problems, the big thumb of governments and the social / psychic vampires that live among us sucking us dry. I thought of this and more when steeping into North Carolina's singer-songwriter, folk indie artist and doer Sophia Corinne (lead singer / co-songwriter of Wild Array, formerly Hoo:Lumes, plus working with a host of collectives / vocal ensembles and other projects). She also exists as a solo artist and crafts an emotional experience on her ever moving, breathing "Fraud".
I am loving Sophia's vocal aesthetic here that has an urgency about it. I felt anxious at times and overwhelmed by the emotional weight of it. It can leave you breathless even during the pauses while acoustic guitar notes fall and rise and as subtle folk orchestration with a plaintive violin pulls at you. The song is a rush or inner sensations even during the quieter moments. Watch the evocative Official Video and these feelings are hightened. Yes, Sophia dives into the nature of things, for sure.
As a solo artist Sophia Corinne graces us with her debut EP, "The Rim". As press notes note, the EP is "a collection of five, confessional indie folk songs that explore the edge of life experiences."

Sophia Corinne is currently based in Asheville NC, where she lives in a tiny home. Though her home may be small, her music is not afraid of taking up space. In performance, her dynamic voice ushers the listener into new worlds. Her songs are ruminations on nature. They pluck their way through memories, relationships, trials and tribulations. Best known for her work in the indie band Wild Array (formerly Hoo:Lumes), her solo material is embarking on a journey of its own.
