Berlin born alt rock / post punk outfit House Of Light, raised in Melbourne and based between Los Angeles and the UK, possess a sound that is darkly romantic, that may feel culled from late 70's Euro proto punk seeds with 80's Goth pop melancholia and 90's indie rock artfully distilled from those dense iconic inspirations. HOL's constant heart beat is singer-songwriter, vocalist / guitarist Justin de Vries and on the band's latest, "Still Life", his passionate earthbound and ethereal croon made me think of an amalgam of Michael Hutchence (RIP) and Bono. Amid big tom tom beats, moody guitars and ramping up rock ascension, Justin along with Tina Zimmermann (harmonies, synth), Trevor Song (synth), Peter Haren (bass), Angus Boyle (drums) and Friederike Wahl (violin) create what might feel like a nostalgic alternate universe full of dreams longed for and maybe lost.

Formed in Berlin, House of Light recorded their 1st album with Gordon Raphael & Clif Norell (NIN,REM, Jeff Buckley) followed by tours of Europe and USA. Often described as dark and melodic, with roots in new wave, indie & psych they have been compared to groups as varied as New Order, the Cure & Depeche Mode.
Lyrically oriented, they lean to a post-romantic bent reminiscent of the optimism of the 80s and the laments of the 90s & are set to soon release their 3rd album "Dysphoria"
On the USA tour they were hailed by the likes of Frank Black of the Pixies, bursting onto the LA scene with an invitation to work with Cleopatra Records. HoL have been booked with acts such as Lydia Lunch, Pete Doherty & interviewed by Andy Rourke of the Smiths.
