"and when your head explodes / will you keep me close / or let me decompose..."
The Official Video for Digital Carb's stunning alternative rock hallucination "In Limbo" is a painted oil kaleidoscope. Beautiful and darkly rendered, it plays to the panoramic sonic dreamscape of the song. As the music project of Munich based artist Johannes Rest (his own paintings were utilized to create the animation in the video), the song is elegantly powerful, eschewing your normal contemporary pop forward rock tones for cinematic surreality based more in 70's progressive rock and 90's art rock landscapes. The song itself is informed by how we process our emotions sometimes at our own emotional peril.
Johannes shares this about the track:
"With a hypnotic and psychedelic atmosphere, the song sounds dark and reassuring at the same time. This encapsulates the lyrical theme as well. It's about big decisions and the duality of emotions in anticipation of them. Feeling confident one day, suffering from crippling self doubt the next. In particular, the song was inspired by my own feelings towards pursuing a career in music, which was put on hold due to the pandemic."

The power and beauty of "In Limbo" hinges, in large part, on the musical narrative created by the dreamy guitars with volcanic eruptions, the giant bass bottom, the dramatic big drumming and, Johannes' vocal aesthetic that feels lost in the space of his poetry, languid, mournful cries and tonal resolutions as lead guitar lines feel like they are literally shooting a million miles into space. The double time cranking musical coda with the eclipsing lead work feels amazing, something in scope between Floyd and Muse.
"In Limbo" is a glimpse of Digital Carbs' upcoming debut album set to release this year (2022).

Digital Carbs is the music project of munich based artist Johannes Rest. After years of playing bass and writing songs in multiple bands, he decided to pursue his own musical vision in 2018. Ever since he has been constantly experimenting with different genres and sounds, developing his unique style in the process.
Sounding intimate and almost fragile at times, you find yourself floating through psychedelic soundscapes before getting struck by a wall of roaring guitars. Sometimes dark and depressing, sometimes energetic and colorful. And sometimes both at the same time. A hint of nostalgia without ever feeling dated. This gets accompanied by Johannes's raw and emotional vocal delivery, covering themes of isolation and disconnect within a world that is getting faster and faster. The songs keep you on your toes just enough while still managing to grab you right away. Digital Carbs's music takes you on a journey and you never quite know where it will take you.
