Divergent Belgium folk indie artist Meskerem Mess has a way of taking her life's experiences and turning them into sonic fables. Meskerem's latest "Where I'm From" plunges you into a rushed spinning emotional Zoetrope that from the start puts you on edge. Meskerem's vocal aesthetic is persuasive but aloof and with her plucking acoustic guitar that stings you with dissonant vibrating notes, plaintiff cello, melancholy flute and lyrics that give you the sense of someone running from danger, the song plunges you into a chilling fever dream as the Zoetrope spins too fast and falls apart.
The Official Video as written & directed by Jaan & Michiel and animated by Visuals Internationals is wonderful and elevated the coldness that you can feel as you navigate past the other lost souls in your life. "Where I'm From" might exist as a mind blowing caveat or parable but one thing is for sure, in life if you are living it, you are a survivor.
