"It spins around my head / At times when I forget / It haunts me now and then / Oh what a feeling..."
Psychedelia is ruling the day. It invades all kinds of musical genres, psych rock, psych folk, psych pop and all genres except maybe country seems to be shaded with hints of psychedelia. Often times it feels nostalgic or escapist, tied to stoner rock or high times. Step into the melting walls of "Spin" and you feel something different, less psychedelic and more bent, like reality is broken. Oh, lest I forget, the band is the New York based trio Triathalon who were formed not to far away (but maybe a world away) in Georgia. "Spin" feels cast as if time is fluttering like wind blown water. The vocal aesthetic spends half the time in a dissonant place. Simon Cowell would wag a finger and say it is pitchy. The emotional effect, in time with the sleepy cadence and pretty shapes feels like a fever dream in a David Lynch film. I dig it because it feels forlorn and like wilting flowers.
