"and there's nothing left to feel..."
There is a certain, definable sound inherent in late 70's / early 80's proto-punk / punk and I feel that sound in my gut when I step straight into the manic sound of "Behind a Bleeding Heart" by Brooklyn 6 piece post punk / alt rock band Catcher. As I listened to the screaming guitar with (maybe) open chords and piercing electric violin slides whose notes push hard against each other casting off translucent dissonance, the pounding, shifting drums / bass attack, combined with the absolute feral urgency and strident snarling vocal aesthetic, I felt an amalgam of artists like Bauhaus, Gang of Four, The Birthday Party and The Doctors of Madness.
That feeling of art on the precipice, unsafe and daring, not for fragile ears is part of a movement that is brought into the light (or stays in the darkness) but is always brewing throughout the avant punk rock manifesto. "Behind a Bleeding Heart" is from Catcher's 2022 full length "The Fat of a Broken Heart".

During their first year as a band (2021), Catcher shared five singles — "Yesterday's Favorite" / "The Skin," "Only Advice" / "Fallen Stones," and "Comparing Saviors and Friends" — and played countless sold-out shows across the city, in addition to going on their first headlining tour across the U.S. with fellow NYC rockers Been Stellar. With the release of their debut album's last single, "Behind A Bleeding Heart," they were featured among The NME 100: Essential Emerging Artists for 2022, and also received their own individual NME feature shortly thereafter. Their past singles and debut LP have earned praise in publications such as Clash, Monster Children, Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar, Alt Citizen, and many more.
