"Hay barn on fire / Sleeping through / Pull the thread of a cobweb / An hour each day / Every time I looked / You were looking away..."
The wistful fragility of "Threads" from London singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and self described 'semi-retired black metal artist' Rapt doesn't tug at you but, instead, give you a long heartfelt stare followed by a warm embrace. Jacob Ware's resonant, beautiful vocal melodies flowing over nimble folk guitar and sparse piano feels classically drawn and when Demi Haynes' exquisite harmonies fall in behind I thought of early Simon and Garfunkel especially in the sage like "hmm hmmmm".
I could listen to this song for hours and my heartbeat would calm and somehow the big bad world might not seem so troublesome. It is not that "Threads" is not coated with melancholia, it is but it also feels adorned with love and warmth as those things are remembered with fondness.
"Threads" is one of two glimpses of Rapt's "Wayward Faith" album dropping on August 27, 2022.
