Last dreamer / lonely soul / don't fall apart now / you're the silent one / flowing sound / passing shade and your light is gone..."
Ultra thick guitars with a heavy metal boogie glam rock moves, dynamic drum and bass shifts and a tantalizing female lead vocal that evokes an unbridled, self assured artful swagger like an amalgam of Karen O, Chrissie Hynde and PJ Harvey and you have something perfect, something that shoots a gleeful adrenaline spike through your body. I am talking about the title track of Bologna, Italy's ALIX's latest album "Last Dreamer".
Lead vocalist (and tambourine player) Alice Albertazzi shares:
“Last Dreamer is a song we had in the drawer that we took up and included in the album, changing the arrangement a little bit. It is part of a story, a love journey in which the protagonist lets himself go like a wave in the sea, feeding on emotions, the sound of the earth and asking us for a kiss to continue dreaming."
Alice's lyrical prose, throughout, is tactile, darkly romantic poetry:
"flowing sound / the clouds passing by you / spinning around... around the moon / with the sound / with the sound of the ground / one last kiss to me / and we'll never be found / we can move like sea / with the sound of the ground / one last kiss to me / and we'll never be found..."
Their 6th full length "Last Dreamer", via Go Down Records, is their first album release since 2008's "Good One" (recorded by Steve Albini) and available by dnld, compact CD and 12" Vinyl. From top to bottom, that album rocks hard, begs to be played loud and blends 70's heavy metal and psych rock with 90's (and contemporary) alt rock with patina's of classic, stoner and post punk.
ALIX is Alice Albertazzi (vocals, tambourine), Pippo De Palma (guitars), Gianfranco Romanelli (bass, dobro) and Andrea Insulla (drums).
