"I could decide tonight that no-one ever sees me again / Set the walls alight and let the last thought tear through my brain..."
The bending synths rhythms and sort of percussive bughouse hand play that opens "Madwoman In The Attic" are at once engrossing and haunting, like the entire song really. The auteur Manchester born, Berlin based newcomer Sable with her storyteller vocal countenance is able to draw you in so easily. As dark orchestrations wrap around her voice, her voice wraps around you. I love the intimacy of her words and the way drum beats and ascensions of other sounds flood in. The atmospheres lie somewhere between baroque pop, psych folk, alt rock, gothic noir. It all feels so lush, dramatic and darkly romantic.
I enjoyed following along, reading the lyrics. Poetic and wonderfully drawn like:
"Ooh remember running mental laps around my heart
Ooh as the sun reflected petals through your yard
Ooh remember when I wouldn't speak
And still you thought I was
The type of pain you need
Ooh remember just how close you flew up to the sun to try and reach"
Ooh as the sun reflected petals through your yard
Ooh remember when I wouldn't speak
And still you thought I was
The type of pain you need
Ooh remember just how close you flew up to the sun to try and reach"
The song from the EP "English Literature" has such amazing sonics, the last third building to a cinematic conclusion leaving enough room for a movie yet to be made also called "Madwoman In The Attic".

Walking the line between Northern English romanticism and Berlin club culture, Sable is a songwriter and electronic music producer with a focus on the everyday and the intimate. Dancing between memories, confessions and calls for action, she suspends her stories in synth-based soundscapes, underpinned by a love for pop music and post-dub inspired breaks. The result is a sound that pulls as much from Joy Division and Justin Vernon as it does from Kate Bush and Caroline Polachek, carving out a space in the art pop world that is uniquely her own.
Following her self-produced debut EP, "Kitchen Sink", Sable has become an exciting name in the Berlin indie scene, leading to her supporting Glass Animals for their show at Berlin’s Columbiahalle. Other recent performances include venues as varied as KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin), Privatclub (Berlin), Castle Hotel (Manchester), and her sold out show at The Library (Oxford). In 2020, she completed a one month mentorship with Darkstar’s James Young (Warp, Hyperdub) as part of Amplify Berlin. Sable's music has garnered praise from the likes of Wonderland, House of Solo, DUMMY, Euphoria Mag, KALTBLUT and Spotify's Fresh Finds.
