" "don't give them what they want, bloody hell, you can tell them what you want..."
Awwwwww, after the meter taps (knocks on wood) to start off "don't give them what they want!!!", by half of a rainbow the art pop project of German singer-songwriter, musician Johannes Harder, you feel a nostalgic type of love as a sweet acoustic piano chord progression easily wraps around you. Literally dripping with nostalgia and a live feel with compelling drum sounds, lovely harmonies and light chamber pop orchestrations you feel thrust back into classic Brit pop sounds.
Of the track Johannes shares about the improvisation writing experience on this song:
"Normally I get inspired by certain words, and the rest comes second. This time, the words really stand behind the composition, and I see the song as an ode to the pure joys of music"
As I said with Johannes' amazing song "poison in E major" I am still feeling a classic meets askew pop like a collision of busker punk / folk indie drawn atmospheres with 60's / 70's noir tones. To me, half of a rainbow feels like an artful amalgam of artists like The Kinks, XTC, Man Man, Menomena.
And that ain't bad is it?
