A friend to me once said, "There's a party in your head / Way too many people, and the music is too loud" / A friend to me once said, "Maybe try to leave your bed / There won't lay the answers to the questions you might have"...
Restraint in adult contemporary music these days feels like a rare commodity maybe that's why when you find it, it feels like an unearthed gem. One such gem is "SOAMI" by 23 singer-songwriter Amilli from Bochum, Germany. The pearly guitars stir in psychedelia without sounding like yacht rock, the droning ambience constructed out of airy- shoegaze-esque backing vox inject an ethereal pop aspect and Amilli's R&B indie vocal styling / melodies push nostalgic buttons. Her vocal countenance, aloof, beautiful in it's sadness pours into a pool of melancholia the longer you listen.
She explains about the track: "The title song "SOAMI", stands for the urge that everything I do must be perfect and that I link my value to my productivity. With that comes a lot of anxiety and I overthink a lot of what I do way too much. Nevertheless, because of its positive sound and the fact that I face these fears, the song gives me a lot of strength, comfort and self-confidence to break out of my comfort zone and trust myself and the process."
"SOAMI", accompanied by a brilliant Official Video, is a reflective piece of work and the title track of Amilli's debut album out NOW.
