"green is the color of your life, I''ll buy you a home to match your eyes..."
I love songs that have a sort of 80's whimsy that pushes against twee. I especially love those songs that are pushed by bass lines that dare to ride mid-range melodies. I also love a vocal mixture of sweetness and subversion. I feel all that within the crooked smile inducing "mothefuckas" by Stockholm, Swedish band / romantic cult Planet Ibiza.
Speaking of romance, I love the short poetic snippet, "green is the color of your life, I''ll buy you a home to match your eyes..." and somehow it made me think of the 1997 pop rocker "I Will Buy You a New Life" and something about "mothefuckas" also had me thinking of fellow Swedes Peter, Bjorn and John's 2006 quaint hit "Young Folks".
As I listen to "mothefuckas" and marvel at the droning sounds, chamber pop horns and casio-fied beat I remember how good sideways, quirky pop indie songs can be. This quirky pop song is the from the band's eponymous EP "Planet Ibiza".
