"We never learned of love / She took us in the night / Forever and ever to fall like this / Could be the perfect lie..."
The pure enchantment and sublime romance of "Melodies of Love" by cabane, the collaborative project of Belgian musician and photographer Thomas Jean Henri, featuring the time transporting vocals of Kate Stables of This Is The Kit (and further enhanced by a piano melody and strings arranged by Sean O'Hagan), feels incredibly present and cinematic in scope. The classically picked guitar tones, falling piano notes like gentle snow and powerfully pained orchestrations, at once, brittle as biting feels (to me) like the dramatic, poignant tones of 60's and 70's touchstones. I though of the pristine magical sultriness and subversions of Francis Lai (circa 1969), Michel Legrand (circa 1973), Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin (circa 1969), and in Kate Stables' complex vocal countenance, aloof but strikingly empathetic at the same time I feel a kind of attitudinal amalgam of Nico and Judy Collins.
LINER NOTES:
A delicately seductive ode to enduring love, Kate Stables of This Is The Kit lends her voice to the new single from cabane. Melodies of Love has a frost tipped piano melody and strings arranged by Sean O’Hagan, a relationship held firm against the elements, it is an enchanting prelude to the new cabane album out 26th January.
cabane is the project of Belgian musician and photographer Thomas Jean Henri. A ‘curated collective’, cabane is conceived, written and produced by Thomas, but sung and performed by a cast of guests and collaborators.

This the second cabane album brings together the voices of Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Sam Genders (Tunng), in a collection of songs existing on the borders of folk and orchestral pop. Far from the troubles of the world, Brulée will be a shelter for lovers of Nick Drake and Vashti Bunyan or for all those touched by the delicacy of Mark Hollis, Sufjan Stevens or Robert Wyatt.
If God can fall apart
So can we
But this Love
Shall forever be
So can we
But this Love
Shall forever be
