"stumbling through the fantasy / in a city / you hold your hate..."
The rushed, out of breath grandeur of "Compassion" by Exeter, UK songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephen G. Clayton (formerly of Meeky Rosie) in conjunction with producer, Paul Knight-Malciak, feels, at times, like a surreal fantasy. The runaway beat, artful arpeggios feels like burning seeds from 70's synth rock, the stuff of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, of Alan Parsons Project with Euro pop undercurrents. It is a soundscape that is easy to get wrapped up in maybe because it also has aspects that fed into dreamy post punk, baroque pop and psychedelic guitar rock. It's musical potency, cross pollinating forever sound stirs our imagination because it translates sonically into sci-fi rock, apocalyptic rock and more. The stuff of artists like Muse, Kasabian and nu-era Smashing Pumpkins.
In the end, "Compassion" with it's indie electronic, space rock moonlight might be the stuff of the cosmos, of our dreams or robot dreams.
