Moontwin and the dreamy art rock fabled escapism of "Doused In Blue" (Official Video)

"crept in the basement / doused in blue / crept in the basement without you..."

The dreamy art rock fabled escapism of "Doused In Blue" by the artful Moontwin, singer-songwriter Maple Bee (aka Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov (founder of alternative radio station XRaydio), holds you by the hand and pulls you down truly artful rabbit holes. The blended sounds, bits of dark gothic folk, baroque pop, psychedelic rock, alt rock into Moontwin's own art rock distillation keeps me awestruck. For one thing, Garside's vocal countenance as a stand alone presence is utterly unique and extremely magnetic and as blended with her own harmonies is, well, quite frankly, heavenly. Kuzmanov's dark drawl is also evocative and their combined musical synergy / collaborations / production aesthetic is perfectly painted.

"Doused in Blue" is the final single from Moontwin’s.second album, simply titled "two", released on 21st March 2025 and like all of their songs I feel dark abstractions and a sort of crystalline beauty combined. Listening to Moontwin I always get a sense of musical history too as I feel stridations of 60's / 70's bohemian psychedelic leans, 80's /90's baroque and post punk atmospheres and contemporary incarnations of a lot of iconic genres into something that feels now while feeling like homages to great music from beyond. In this way, Garside and Kuzmanov craft forever songs, timeless songs.

LINER NOTES:

[Maple Bee (aka Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov were friends for many years in London, but when Zac relocated to his native Bulgaria after contracting a degenerative muscle disease (ALS), they began to create music virtually between Cornwall (UK) and Plovdiv (Bulgaria).]

Dive in. You will feel captured. I also have included (below) links to other Moontwin reviews (six) I have penned.

Keep the faith. Fight the good fight.

PREVIOUS REVIEWS OF MOONTWIN

https://www.americanpancake.com/2018/08/moontwin-and-comely-heaviness-of-lose.html

Moontwin release their second album, simply titled ‘two’, on 21st March 2025.

It includes fan favourites ‘Storm In A Shell’, ‘Tsunamical’ and ‘Symbols’, as well as four previously unreleased tracks.

New single, Doused in Blue, rises and chimes, crashes and falls, creating something captivating and haunted by nostalgia.

The duo find themselves on a dreamlike journey, their lives woven together through the seasons, their evolution both exquisite and pained. The song captures something of our common experience as human beings negotiating the passage of time.

Doused in Blue is the final single from the Moontwin’s new album ‘two’.
