"Forever's seven letters / R's and e's preferred / Two words stuck together / With the boundary deferred / A simple preposition / And a time adverb"
The purely human folk connection and embrace of "Forever" by London based singer songwriter Eli Carvajal, and from his new album "Eyen Forever" that dropped early this October via Safe Suburban Home Records, is graced and enhanced by Eli's beautiful vocal countenance that is bathed with vulnerability and lyrics that playfully tumble from his lips. The track is tender and, well, downright magical which might have a lot to do with how and where it was conceived and recorded as Eli shares:
"Forever is a song of love, loss and language, inspired by my years teaching English in Tokyo, Japan. I recorded the song alone in my room overlooking Mt Fuji. "
I have to admit reading that sentence the first time almost took my breath away. Eli's LINER NOTES also reveal:
[Forever was inspired by my two years' teaching English in Tokyo, Japan. In the song, I play with the language we use around romance, reframing love and loss with poignancy as well as humour.]
LYRICS
Forever's seven letters
R's and e's preferred
Two words stuck together
With the boundary deferred
A simple preposition
And a time adverb
Forever's seven letters
And the longest word
Love is from the Saxon
So are kind and cool
Caution is a Roman
Wall surrounding you
Indo-European
With a German root
Love is for the living
And the turning blue
You and I are pronouns
Who share the same address
Loving you is profound
And that means bottomless
You been days away now
A penalty incurred
Forever's seven letters
And the longest word
R's and e's preferred
Two words stuck together
With the boundary deferred
A simple preposition
And a time adverb
Forever's seven letters
And the longest word
Love is from the Saxon
So are kind and cool
Caution is a Roman
Wall surrounding you
Indo-European
With a German root
Love is for the living
And the turning blue
You and I are pronouns
Who share the same address
Loving you is profound
And that means bottomless
You been days away now
A penalty incurred
Forever's seven letters
And the longest word
In the end, it is so easy to get blissfully lost in Eli Carvajal's folk indie aesthetic a blend of nimble ever shifting acoustic guitar shapes and stories sung about the human condition saturated in compassion.
