"Suddenly, you know how the story goes / One day you're fighting the good fight / the next who knows..."
The wonky blendo alt pop rock slipperiness of "Possibility" by Pittsburgh's Vimanas, is a lot of things, all memorable. The group's sound, self-described as sci-fi garage rock, has me thinking of abstract indie rock flavors that incorporates 80's new wave, 90's experimental, jazz-tronic flavors as well as current experimental endeavors, maybe adjacent to bands like Wall of Voodoo, Cake, They Might Be Giants, Mexican Institute of Sound or thereabouts. What ever you call it, however you refer to the sound, I am loving the big drums against a sparse sound, the unique vocal performance, and the overall sound that at once gives off both lo-fi and progressive elements at the same time, the wonky, angular qualities, the drunken stumble that feels quirky and thoroughly inviting.
LYRICS
One day you're fighting the good fight, the next who knows
They ask "young man, who goes?"
I'd have to think it through, I'd really have to think it through
In this wide world of ample proportion
We are too long in life too short
We could taste sweet honey and sedative venom before the end
I'd have to think it through, I'd probably want to taste them both
"Possibility" is track 2 from the band's EP album "Overstated Fictions"- Vimanas at it's core is a trio with a revolving door of other musicians contributing to the overall sound.
