The kaleidoscopic folk indie rock dreaminess of "Caught me up Outside" by Monti Kingu, the diverse solo project of Lewiston, NY based singer-songwriter / musician / producer Sean Thurman, vacillates between airy psychedelic folksy washes and full throttle indie rock drops. I am loving the vocal layers sort of shoegazey but full decipherable, the vocal aesthetic feels like floods of memories all at once. The distance between the folksy sections bathed in swampy blues tones and the heavier rock drops also bluesy push a bit into that space between alternative folk rock and even feels grunge adjacent. I couldn't help but feel an aesthetic somewhere between a collision of Modest Mouse circa "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" and Built to Spill circa "Keep It Like a Secret".
Lovely, potent stuff indeed.
